2022 BIBLE CELEBRATION WEEK- CELEBRATING A CENTENARY (100 YEARS) OF THE CHICHEWA- BUKU LOPATULIKA – NDILO MAU A MULUNGU BIBLE.

THEME: “GOD’S WORD : NOT EMPTY WORDS BUT OUR VERY LIFE”

The Bible Society of Malawi is pleased to announce that the 2022 Bible Week will be celebrated from Sunday 2nd October to Saturday 8th October 2022. The Celebrations will be observed under the theme “GOD’S WORD: NOT EMPTY WORDS BUT OUR VERY LIFE”. This year’s Bible week will be very special because we will also be celebrating the first vernacular Bible in our nation, the Chichewa Bible- BUKU LOPATULIKA – Ndilo Mau A Mulungu, that was first published in 1922. This calls for a Big Celebration. To this end the Bible Week will be opened on Sunday, 2nd October, 2022 with an erection of the Centenary Pillar (100 Years) at Kaso Hill at Mvera, where the Bible was translated. This will be followed by a service of worship at Mvera CCAP. The main Centenary Celebration shall be held on Saturday, 8th October, 2022 in Lilongwe City as we close the Bible Week.

We bless the Lord that we can be alive at this time when as a nation we can celebrate the first vernacular Bible that has been in our midst for the past 100 years. The theme for the Centenary Celebration is:

“100 years with my Bible in Chichewa”  – “Zaka 100 ndi Baibulo langa La Chichewa”

The reflective scriptures are Deuteronomy 32 : 45 – 47 (GNB) :

When Moses had finished giving God’s teachings to the people, he said, “Make sure you obey all these commands that I have given you today. Repeat  them to your children, so that they may faithfully obey all God’s teachings. These teachings are not empty words; they are your very life. Obey them and you will live long in that land across the Jordan that you are about to occupy.”

The public is also informed that the Society is producing a Special Centenary Chichewa Bible and a celebratory cloth that will be available soon through various churches participating in the celebrations as well as in all our Bible shops in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.

May God bless Malawi and bless us all.
