The Bible Society of Malawi, through its Let the Children Encounter Christ (LECEC) project, successfully hosted the City Finals of the Bible Quiz and Bible Storytelling competitions on 10 October 2026 at Victory Christian Temple in Mzuzu. The event brought together children from 14 churches across the city in a vibrant celebration of Scripture engagement, biblical knowledge, and Christian fellowship.

The competition demonstrated the tremendous impact of investing in children’s spiritual formation, as participants confidently showcased their understanding of God’s Word through both Bible-based quizzes and storytelling presentations. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, enthusiasm, and a shared commitment to raising a generation firmly grounded in biblical values.

In the highly competitive Bible Quiz category, Pentecostal Miracle Church (PMC) emerged as the overall champions after displaying exceptional knowledge of Scripture. Raised for a Purpose (RFP) secured second place, while Katoto Assemblies of God finished in third position.

The Bible Storytelling Competition equally captivated the audience as children creatively and confidently narrated biblical stories and lessons. Raised for a Purpose (RFP) claimed first place through an outstanding presentation by their representative, Gemima, whose storytelling skills impressed both the judges and the audience. Victory Christian Temple secured second place, while Mchengautuwa Assemblies of God finished third.

Beyond the competition itself, the event served as an important platform for children to deepen their understanding of Scripture, build confidence in expressing their faith, and develop lifelong habits of engaging with the Bible. Parents, church leaders, Sunday School teachers, and supporters witnessed firsthand the eagerness of children to learn and share God’s Word when provided with the right opportunities and resources.

Speaking after the event, Fletcher Mdeni the Project Coordinator expressed gratitude to the participating churches, children, volunteers, and church leaders whose commitment contributed to the success of the programme. The finals also highlighted the growing partnership between local churches and the Bible Society of Malawi in advancing child-focused Bible engagement initiatives.

The event concluded with the presentation of prizes and certificates to the winning teams and participants, recognising not only academic achievement but also dedication to learning and applying biblical truths. For many children, the competition was both a rewarding experience and an encouragement to continue studying Scripture more deeply.

Investing in Malawi’s Children

The Let the Children Encounter Christ (LECEC) project is a child-focused Scripture engagement initiative designed to help children encounter Christ through accessible Bible resources, age-appropriate learning activities, and active participation within local churches. The project promotes the use of Children’s Bibles and other Scripture resources in Sunday Schools and children’s ministries across Malawi.

The importance of this ministry is underscored by Malawi’s demographic profile. Recent statistics indicate that Malawi’s population now stands at approximately 20.66 million people, with children representing the largest segment of the population. Children aged 0-4 years account for 15.1% of the population, while those aged 5-12 years represent approximately 22%. These figures highlight the strategic importance of investing in children’s spiritual development and ensuring that they have access to God’s Word from an early age.

Through the LCEC project, the Bible Society of Malawi continues to work with churches across the country to make Scripture available and relevant to children, in pursuit of the theme:

“The Bible for Everyone – Even the Children.”

The project is inspired by the words of Jesus Christ:

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Matthew 19:14 (GNB)

As more churches embrace child-focused Scripture engagement, initiatives such as the Bible Quiz and Bible Storytelling competitions are helping to nurture a new generation of believers who not only know God’s Word but are also confident in living and sharing it with others.
