Our Projects

End to End

Transforming Lives Through Scripture

The End to End Project is a comprehensive initiative designed to bring the Bible from translation to meaningful engagement, ensuring that individuals and communities can access, understand, and apply God’s Word in their daily lives.

Malawi has a significant literacy gap, particularly among women. 43% of women in Mangochi and 30% of women in Phalombe are illiterate, making access to education and literacy training critical. The Bible Society of Malawi, recognizing the importance of literacy in engaging with the Bible and community development, launched this project in 2017 with initial support from the Finnish Bible Society. In 2019, the Finnish Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs began funding the project, ensuring its continued expansion and impact.

Project Goals

  • Empower women through literacy and education.
  • Enhance Bible engagement by enabling women to read the Bible in their mother tongue.
  • Foster social and economic participation, allowing women to write their names, send messages, and engage in community leadership.
  • Encourage lifelong learning through post-literacy activities and reading groups.

Teaching Methodologies

  • Mother-tongue based literacy to enhance quick learning.
  • Basic literacy classes facilitated by trained teachers.
  • Flexible teaching periods (April to October), followed by graduations and post-literacy activities.
  • Reading groups formed to sustain literacy skills beyond formal training.

The Literacy for Women in Malawi has to this date impacted over 5,000 women who have gained literacy skills. Many learners can now read the Bible, sign documents, and write personal letters. Women have gained confidence to participate in community leadership roles.

The project has strengthened partnerships with churches, local NGOs, and the Malawi Government’s literacy department.

The Women for Literacy Project is transforming lives by equipping Malawian women with the ability to read, write, and engage meaningfully in their communities. With continued support and expansion, the project aims to reach even more women and create lasting change.
