Gary Jumbe Hands Over Chairmanship to Fanuel Kumdana

The Bible Society of Malawi (BSM) marked a significant leadership transition during its Annual General Meeting held on 27 June 2025 in the northern city of Mzuzu. After seven years of committed service, Mr. Gary Jumbe concluded his tenure as Board Chairperson and formally handed over leadership to his long-serving deputy, Mr. Fanuel Kumdana.

Celebrating Seven Years of Faithful Service

Mr. Jumbe has been praised for his visionary and servant-hearted leadership, guiding the Society through seasons of growth and transformation. Under his stewardship, BSM achieved several strategic milestones in Bible distribution, stakeholder engagement, and institutional development.

In his farewell remarks, Mr. Jumbe reflected on the spiritual nature of his leadership journey: “I accepted this role as a calling from God. I know I pushed hard at times—but it was  always for the greater good. As I step down, I encourage the team to carry forward the work we have started. Most importantly, let us redeem Jireh Bible House—it remains vital to BSM’s long-term sustainability.”

The audience, made up of Society members and stakeholders, responded with gratitude and warm applause, recognizing his devotion to advancing God’s Word in Malawi.

Continuity and Confidence in New Leadership

The transition to Mr. Fanuel Kumdana represents not just a change in leadership but a continuity of purpose. Mr. Kumdana served as Vice Chairperson throughout Mr. Jumbe’s tenure and brings with him both experience and a deep understanding of the Society’s mission.

His election by the board was unanimous, reflecting confidence in his capacity to lead BSM into its next chapter.

Joining the leadership team as Vice Chairperson is Dr. Rabson Mgawi, a respected member of the board who previously chaired the Society’s Fundraising Committee. That committee is now led by Mr. Martin Msimuko, ensuring a seamless transition and strong leadership across key areas of governance.

Looking Ahead

This moment of transition underscores BSM’s commitment to strong, stable, and spiritually grounded leadership. As the Society continues its mission of making the Bible available and accessible across Malawi, it does so with renewed focus and energy.

“Leadership may change, but the mission remains: to share the life-transforming message of Scripture with all people.”

The Bible Society of Malawi is grateful for the leadership of Mr. Gary Jumbe and welcomes Mr. Fanuel Kumdana with confidence and prayerful expectation for the future.
